
Tigers Finish Strong at Marquette Challenge

Milwaukee, Wisc.-- - The Tiger volleyball team broke its two-match losing streak by sweeping a pair of matches on Saturday in day two of the Marquette Challenge. Missouri defeated both Bradley and Marquette in three games.
Mary Lauren Smith and Shen Danru were named to the Marquette Challenge All-Tournament team. Danru was named to the All-Tournament team at all three of MU's tournaments this fall.
Mizzou (7-2) defeated Bradley, 3-0 (30-18, 30-16, 30-22) in their first match of the day. The Tigers hit .446 as a team and five Tigers had hitting percentages above .400. Bradley, on the other hand, hit only .103. Missouri made only nine hitting errors and had no errors in the second game.
Smith led MU with 11 kills followed by Danru with 10. Nicole Wilson had three service aces and added a solo block and a block assist. Lindsey Hunter had 34 assists against the Braves.
Missouri was again in control against Marquette in the nightcap, recording a 3-0 (30-22, 30-25, 30-26) win. MU opened up a large lead in game one by going on a 9-1 run near the middle of the game before taking the 30-22 win. It followed that with a 30-25 win in the second game, leading by as many as eight at one point in that game.
Despite trailing by eight early on in game three, the Tigers battled back to tie the score at 22 before finishing on an 8-4 run to close out the match.
Smith led the Tigers in kills again with 15 against the Golden Eagles. Lindsey Noll added 12 kills for the Tigers. Hunter had 37 assists and four aces to go along with seven digs.
Big 12 Conference play begins on Wednesday for Mizzou and the rest of the league. The Tigers open up the conference season at Baylor at 7 p.m.
