NORMAN, Ok. - The University of Missouri tennis team dropped a hard fought match to Oklahoma 4-3 today. The Tigers had the Sooners on the rope but failed to convert one match point and dropped to 4-5 in conference and 12-6 overall. The Tigers beat Tulsa on Friday but dropped two conference matches to Oklahoma today and Oklahoma State on Saturday.
The Tigers won the doubles point to start the day when the tandems of Urska Juric and Katka Sevcikova and Hana Kraftova and Lucie Ruskova won their doubles matches. The Tigers took an early 1-0 lead. Kraftova and Sevcikova both won difficult three-set matches to give the Tigers three points; one shy of a victory. Urska Juric, the Tigers top singles player was defeated by Oklahoma's top player Anda Perianu in three sets and Oklahoma clinched the victory. Juric won the first set 7-6, lost the second set 6-3 and lost the final set in a tiebreaker 7-6 (8-6). Juric had one match point but was unable to convert and the Sooners took the match.
The Tigers hope the friendly confines of the Green Tennis Center will bring them wins as they face Texas and Iowa State at home next weekend.
