AMES, Iowa-- - The Mizzou volleyball team continued its recent domination of the Iowa State Cyclones as it recorded a 3-0 (30-21, 30-20, 30-11) win in Ames, Iowa on Saturday.
Missouri has not lost to Iowa State since November of 1996, a string of 13 consecutive Tiger wins, and head coach Susan Kreklow moves to 7-0 all-time against ISU.
Mizzou held the Cyclones to only a .074 hitting percentage on Saturday and recorded seven team blocks.
The Tigers used a 10-1 run midway through game one to build a lead as large as 10 as they took the opening game 30-21. Mizzou hit just .100 in the game, but held the Cyclones to a -.018 hitting percentage. One solo block and four block assists helped MU to the win.
Mizzou picked up its hitting in the second game, posting a .419 hitting percentage on its way to taking a 2-0 lead into the intermission. The Tigers continued their strong blocking, recording four more block assists in game two.
After ISU won the first point of game three, the Tigers won six straight points and 12 of the next 14 to build a comfortable lead. A .577 hitting percentage in game three to go along with a .030 mark by Iowa State led the easy win for MU.
Shen Danru had her seventh double-double of the season and her fifth in the six Big 12 Conference matches, with 11 kills and 10 digs. Lisa Boyd also had 11 kills to go along with a team-leading .588 hitting percentage.
Jessica Vander Kooi, making her first return to her home state, had 10 digs and three services aces. As a team, MU had eight aces and committed only four service errors.
With the victory, Missouri moves to 12-3 on the year and 5-1 in the Big 12 Conference. Iowa State falls to 8-8 overall and 1-5 in the conference. The Tigers will remain on the road, as they travel to Manhattan, Kan. on Wednesday to face Kansas State at 8 p.m.
