Tigers Sweep West Virginia at Crimson Tide Invitational

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The University of Missouri Tiger volleyball team moved to 4-1 on the season defeating West Virginia 3-0 at the Crimson Tide Invitational on Saturday. The win was the second sweep in as many days as the Tigers downed McNeese State 3-0 on Friday.
The Tigers had a season best .545 hitting percentage on the night and four Tigers hit over .500. Mary Lauren Smith led the offensive attack for MU, finishing with 17 kills. Shen Danru had 15 kills, Christi Myers had 11 and Lindsey Noll had 10. Lindsey had 56 assist for the Tigers. Danru led the Tiger defense, recording 10 digs.
Mizzou cruised to victories in games one and two taking the first game by the score of 30-16 and the second 30-13. Four Tigers had hitting percentages over .500 in both games and MU as a team hit .571 in game one and .700 in the second game.
West Virginia gave MU a charge in the third game, jumping out to an 11-7 early lead. The Mountaineers held the lead for most of the game, but Mizzou was able to fight back and come away with the 30- win, completing the three game sweep of WVU.
Missouri will be back on the court Saturday night to face Alabama at 7:30 p.m. in the final game of the Crimson Tide Tourney.
