Mizzou Volleyball Wins Crimson Tide Invitational Title

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Just as it did one week ago at the Oregon State Showcase, the Missouri volleyball team entered the final game of the Crimson Tide Invitational with a chance to take home the tournament title. However, unlike a week ago, this time Mizzou game away on top. After dropping the first game of the match, Missouri won the next three game and took the 3-1 victory.
After Alabama won the first game by a score of 30-27, the Tigers tied the match with a thrilling rally to close out game two. Alabama had match point at 29-25, but Mizzou fought back, scoring six straight points to pick up the 31-29 win and tie the match at one game a piece.
With the momentum clearly with the Tigers after the finish to game two, Mizzou rolled in the third game, claiming a 30-19 win and taking a 2-1 lead in the match.The Tigers continued to take it to Alabama in game three and came away with the 30-23 win and the match victory.
Shen Danru led the Tigers with a career high 18 kills and finished with a hitting percentage of .421. Mary Lauren Smith added 16 kills and Christi Myers had 11. Lindsey Hunter recorded 50 assist for MU. Danru also led Mizzou in digs, finishing with 16 on the night.
Myers, Smith and Danru were named to the All-Tournament Team and Danru was named the tournament MVP.
The Tigers (5-1) travel to Kansas City, Mo. on Wednesday to take on UMKC. Mizzou's first home action of the season is next weekend as it will host the Quality Inn Tiger Invitational. On Friday, the Tigers will face North Carolina State at 11:30 a.m. and San Diego State at 7 p.m. On Saturday the Tigers take on Arkansas-Little Rock at 2 p.m. and Eastern Illinois at 7 p.m.
