
Mizzou Volleyball Opens Big 12 Season With Win Over Texas

AUSTIN, Texas - The Missouri Tiger volleyball team extended its winning streak to nine matches on Wednesday by defeating Texas 3-1 in their Big 12 Conference opener in Austin, Texas.
For the second time this season, Mizzou lost game one of the match, but rallied to win the next three and take the victory. After dropping game one 30-26, the Tigers bounced back to take game two by a 30-23 score. Mizzou then took a 2-1 lead in the match by winning game three, 30-24. MU followed that with a convincing 30-21 win in game four.
Mary Lauren Smith led the Tigers in kills with 19 on the night and hit .600. Lisa Morris added 12 and Shen Danru had 11. Lindsey Hunter, the Big 12 Conference assists leader, had 46 assist for Missouri on the night. Hunter also led MU in digs with 11 against Texas.
With its ninth straight victory, Missouri improves to 11-1 on the season and 1-0 in the Big 12 Conference. Head Coach Susan Kreklow and Associate Head Coach Wayne Kreklow are 3-0 in conference openers since arriving at Mizzou in 2000.
Missouri has now won the last five meetings with Texas and has not lost to the Longhorns since the Kreklows arrived at MU in 2000.
Missouri will take the court again next Wednesday, when it will host Texas A&M at the Hearnes Center at 7 p.m.
