COLUMBIA, Mo. - Missouri always had an answer for Washington and then some in Friday's non-conference game Friday night at Taylor Stadium/Simmons Field. Washington would score first and the Tigers would retaliate on their way to recording the 11-9 victory.
After Washington built a 4-1 lead after one and one-half innings, Missouri scored two runs in the third and added one in the fourth to tie the game. Washington then took a 6-4 lead but the Tigers scored four runs in the fifth and added two in the sixth for a 10-6 advantage. Washington answered with three runs in the seventh to make it 10-9 but the Tigers added an insurance run in the seventh for the 11-9 final margin.
Chris Julo had four hits and drove in a career-best tying four runs while Luke Cassis had two hits and a career-high three RBI.
Washington used two hits, a walk and a hit batter to score two runners in the first inning. Missouri's Jayce Tingler singled and scored on an error to give MU its first run of the contest.
After Washington plated two runs in the second innings, the Tigers scored two runs in the second inning and another in the third to the game, 4-4. Julo, who earlier doubled in the game, singled to drive in Jody Roughton and tie the contest.
Washington scored two runs in the top half of the fifth inning to take a 6-4 lead before Missouri erupted for four runs and took an 8-6 lead. Mick Weiss singled to lead off the inning before Felipe Tetelboin doubled to score Weiss. Julo singled to score Tetelboin before Brent Lacy doubled to put runners on second and third base. Cassis drove in Julo before a Tingler sacrifice fly scored Lacy for the two-run lead.
Missouri plated two runs in the sixth inning when Julo singled to center with two outs. The single, Julo's fourth hit of the game, drove in Lee Laskowski and Tetelboin to give Missouri a 10-6 advantage.
