In her first 5000-meter run of the outdoor season, Ann Marie Brooks not only automatically qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Championships, but her time of 15:52.54 at the Mt. SAC Relays (Walnut, Calif.) tops the national list in the outdoor season and is second on Missouri's All-Time Top-Five performance list.
Also competing at the Mt. SAC Relays was Knut Sommerfeldt, who placed seventh in the men's decathlon with 7,300 points. Sommerfeldt's highlights were his 208-11 throw in the javelin, a 45-5 mark in the shot put and a personal-best time of 4:43.21 in the 1500m run.
The rest of the Tigers continued the events at the Kansas Relays as most of the running events got underway Friday. The women's 400m hurdles were good for the Ibe sisters. Comfort Ibe, running unattached from Missouri, qualified for the finals with her second-place finish (1:02.28) in the preliminaries. Freshman Margaret Ibe finished 12th in her personal-best time of 1:04.96.
The Missouri women's 4x400m relay team qualified for Saturday's final as it finished in 3:49.64 and sixth place overall in the prelims.
In throws, Lindsey Markworth had her personal-best in the shot put with a mark of 45-5.25 to lead the Tiger women in the event with a fifth-place finish. Sophomore Gary File had his best performance of the outdoor season thus far with his seventh-place mark of 203-0 in the javelin.
