Carbondale, Ill. -- The temperatures were not what one would expect during the first official weekend of spring, but Missouri Track & Field athletes overcame the cool conditions and had a successful weekend at the Saluki Spring Classic at Southern Illinois University Friday and Saturday.
The meet went well for a number of Mizzou athletes who won their events and had career bests during the weekend.
Senior Micah Shanks had a great Saturday, winning the hammer throw and placing second in the shot put. Shanks' personal best throw of 210-1 in the hammer broke the old school record by nearly six feet. Shanks had a mark of 52-4.5 in the shot.
Sophomore Jason Edmonds and senior Jay Meystedt shared the high jump title, clearing 6-10.75. Freshman Jesse Sims was third with his height of 6-8.75.
Sophomore Gary File also had a winning day, as he placed first in the javelin. In windy conditions, File threw for 200-0 Saturday.
