COLUMBIA, Mo. - Missouri kept its streak of beating Top 10 teams intact as the Tigers recorded a 7-5 win over Baylor Friday night in Big 12 Conference play at Taylor Stadium/Simmons Field.
Last season, Missouri recorded wins in series against No. 6 Pepperdine and No. 4 Nebraska. In fact, Missouri has now won three straight games against teams in the nation's Top 10.
Abel Newton struck out a career-best 10 batters in seven innings to record the win. Travis Wendte struck out four batters in two innings of relief work to pick up the save. Baylor took the early 4-0 lead before Missouri rallied.
The Bears scored the game's first run in the fourth inning by taking advantage of a walk, a wild pitch, another walk and a single.
Baylor scored three times in the fifth inning. MU committed back-to-back errors to open the inning before BU's Chris Durbin hit a three-homer over the left-field wall to give the Bears a 4-0 lead.
The Tigers got a home run of their own in the sixth inning. Cody Ehlers doubled to left field to open the inning before Lee Laskowski hit a shot over the right-center field wall to make it 4-2. The home run was the second of the season and the fourth of Laskowski's career.
Missouri plated five runs in the seventh inning. Ryan Rallo singled to open the inning before Jody Roughton doubled to score Rallo. Ehlers walked before Mick Weiss singled in Roughton to tie the score. Ehlers scored on a wild pitch to give MU a 5-4 lead. Laskowski walked and he and Weiss pulled off a double steal to give MU a 6-4 lead. Laskowski eventually scored on a single by Tony Vitello and MU led 7-4.
Roughton, Ehlers, Vitello and Laskowski each had two hits for the Tigers.
Game two of the Big 12 series will be Saturday at 2 p.m.
