
Shanks Automatically Qualifies in Men's Weight Throw

AMES, Iowa - Senior Micah Shanks' toss of 70-10.50 in the men's weight throw Friday at the Iowa State University Classic gave the Casey, Ill. native an automatic qualifying mark in the event. Shanks placed second in the weight throw behind Kansas senior Scott Russell, who set the collegiate record in the event Friday with his throw of 81-1.25.
Junior Russ Bell placed third (69-6.25) and junior Christian Cantwell placed sixth (67-9.50) in the event.
Sophomore Lyndsey Tait's height of 12-0 in the women's pole vault was not only a personal best for the Jefferson City, Mo. native but the school record as well. Tait placed seventh in the event. Sophomore Jennifer Bennett cleared 11-6, her personal best in the pole vault.
Senior Kimberly Moore also performed well in the 5000m, finishing in 17:29.05, good for fifth place.
Saturday's events begin at 10 a.m. with the men's 3000m run.
