
Tiger Volleyball Falls to UNI In Five

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa - The Missouri Tigers volleyball team saw its season come to an end in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. The No. 20 Tigers were defeated in five games by No. 6 Northern Iowa, 3-2 (25-30, 22-30, 30-27, 30-27, 15-10). MU's finishes the year 26-8.
The Tigers jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the match by taking the first two games in convincing fashion. Despite late charges by Mizzou in both games three and four, Northern Iowa came away with the victory in both games to force a fifth game. The Panthers jumped out to an early lead in game five and recorded the 15-10 win to advance to the next round.
Shen Danru led MU with her second-consecutive 23-kill match. Danru also had 10 digs for her 20th double-double of the season.
Mary Lauren Smith had 22 kills and Christi Myers finished with 17. Myers finishes her career with 1,476 kills, just two shy of the record for most kills in a season held by Yvette Buhlig.
Lindsey Hunter set a career high for the second consecutive night with 69 assists against UNI. Hunter also led MU with 14 digs as she recorded her 10th double-double of the year.
Mizzou finishes the year with 26 wins, tying for the most wins by a Tiger team since 1983. The Tigers reached the second round of the NCAA Tournament for the first time in school history after picking up its first ever victory in an NCAA Tournament match.
