
Tiger Men Show Well at NCAA Pre-National Meet

The University of Missouri Tiger men's and women's cross country teams had an outstanding showing at the NCAA Pre-National Meet in Terre Haute, Indiana on Saturday. The women's team, currently ranked 20th in the nation, finished fifth in a talent-laden 38 team race. The Tigers finished behind, national number 1 BYU, Colorado, Georgetown, and Wisconsin. Mizzou finished tied for fifth with Duke and beat other nationally ranked teams including North Carolina, Indiana, Michigan, and William & Mary. Tiger freshman Amanda Bales, finishing 9th overall with a time of 20:36, and Valerie Lauver, finishing 17th with a time of 20:52, led the Tiger omen in the 6K race. Missouri head cross country cach Jared Wilmes said, "It was just a great day and a great performance. This gets us very excited for the Big 12 (Cross Country) meet. We got great wins over some nationally ranked teams on a national level.
The Mizzou men finished 24th out of 36 teams. Ryan Hampton led the Tigers with his second fastest 8K time of 24:58 and Matt Noonan finished second on the Tiger team with an 8K personal best of 25:11. Wilmes said, "This is a nice step in the right direction. We're working real hard, we're getting a lot better and it shows." Both the Tiger men and women are back in action on Saturday November 2nd when they host the Big 12 Cross Country Championships.
