Durham, N.C. - The University of Missouri women's soccer team drops to 5-2 on the season after a 7-0 loss to No. 1 ranked North Carolina in their second game of the Duke Invitational Tournament. Mizzou started seven newcomers against the 2000 National Champions and played a solid defensive game. Despite being outshot 28-to-2 in the match, Missouri's young squad showed promise against the country's best. Seniors Dyana Russell and Mandy Waters anchored the Tigers effort. Both players put in All-American performances defending UNC's onslaught of attacks. Newcomers Carrie Crosset and Kim Hibbert also served valuable roles on the back line.
Freshman forward Melissa Peabody came through in MU's offensive drive taking the teams' only shots in the game. She joined Hibbert and midfielder Lacy Moore as three freshmen that played all 90 minutes. Goalkeeper Megan Duncan picks up her second loss of the year taking her season mark to 3-2. She played 67 minutes in goal, made nine saves and allowed five goals. Stephanie Krawczyk rounded out the game for Missouri. She played 23 minutes, allowed two goals and made one save.
