Texas A&M Downs Missouri, 6-4 Stegall hits three-run homer in first, extends hit streak to 16 games
COLUMBIA, Mo. -- After taking a 3-0 lead, the University of Missouri baseball team saw Texas A&M score six of the next seven runs and come away with a 6-4 win Thursday night at Taylor Stadium/Simmons Field in Big 12 Conference action.
Missouri, which falls to 30-23-1 overall and 10-18 in the Big 12, needs to win its remaining two games against the Aggies and some help to qualify for the Big 12 Conference Tournament. Texas A&M improves to 29-25 overall and 14-14 in league play.
Missouri took a 3-0 lead in the first inning on a three-run home run by Ryan Stegall. W.T. Hoover and Jon Williams hit back-to-back singles before Stegall's blast cleared the left-field fence. The homer was Stegall's 33rd in his career and ranks him fifth all-time at MU. The hit extends Stegall's hit streak to 16 games, the longest streak in the past two seasons at Missouri.
The Aggies used four hits and one walk to score three runs in the second inning and tie the game. After Texas A&M scored one run in the top half of the fourth inning, Ryan Rallo tied the score, 4-4, with his fourth homer of the season.
Texas A&M used a run in the sixth and ninth innings to record the win. Kyle Parcus picked up the win in relief while Chris Russ recorded the save. Missouri's Matt Hobbs took the loss and falls to 8-5.
Luke Cassis had three hits for the Tigers while Lee Laskowski added two.
The series continues Friday at 7 p.m. and concludes Saturday at 2 p.m.
