MANHATTAN, Kan. -- A pair of seven-run innings led Kansas State to a 15-4 win over Missouri Friday at Frank Myers Field in Big 12 Conference baseball action.
The Wildcats (22-22 overall, 7-15 Big 12) scored seven runs in the third inning and then again in the fifth inning in the game called after seven innings due to the 10-run conference mercy rule. Kansas State hit three home runs, two doubles and one triple in the contest.
The Tigers actually led 1-0, scoring a run in the third inning when W.T. Hoover reached on an error. After moving to third base on a balk, Ryan Stegall doubled to left field to give Missouri a quick 1-0 lead. The double was the 44th of Stegall's career, pushing him into a tie for 10th place all-time at MU. Stegall is tied with Russ Perkins (1982-86), Nick Rallo (1983-86) and Mike Rallo (1997-2000) with the 44 doubles. Stegall does now have 80 extra-base hits, placing him fourth all-time at MU.
Kansas State rallied, scoring seven runs in the bottom of the third inning. The Wildcats added a run in the fourth inning before Missouri used three singles and a sacrifice fly to make it 8-3.
Jayce Tingler singled to lead off the inning and stole second base. A single by Stegall put runners on third and first base, respectively. Mick Weiss singled to make it 8-2 before Jon Williams hit a sacrifice fly for an 8-3 lead.
Kansas State scored seven more runs in the fifth inning to take a 15-3 edge. A two-run triple by B.J. Crone and a two-run double by Osmar Castillo were the big blows in the frame.
Missouri, 27-18-1 overall and 10-15 in league play, got a run in the seven inning on Hoover's home run to left field. The homer was Hoover's first of the season. Stegall later singled to right field to give him three hits on the day.
The two teams meet Saturday at 3 p.m. That contest will be shown on Fox Sports Net's Rocky Mountain, Midwest and Southwest regional networks
