
Desch Powers Missouri Past Creighton

COLUMBIA, Mo. -- The University of Missouri baseball team recorded an 11-7 victory over Creighton University Wednesday night in a non-conference game at Taylor Stadium/Simmons Field.
Brian Desch, a redshirt freshman catcher from Lenexa, Kan., was the hitting hero for the Tigers as he had three hits to drive in four runs. He had a pair of doubles in the contest.
With Missouri trailing 4-2, the Tigers used a five-run sixth inning to take a lead they never relinquished. Desch had a bases-clearing double to give MU a 5-4 lead. Kurt Propst knocked in Desch with a single to center. Propst came around to score on a bunt single by Jayce Tingler for a 7-4 lead.
In the seventh, Ryan Stegall homered for an 8-4 lead. Wes Fewell doubled down the right-field line to extend his hitting streak to 11 games. Fewell scored when Desch doubled to give the Tigers a 9-4 lead.
Creighton rallied for three runs in the eighth inning to make it 9-7.
The Tigers used a walk by Tingler and a double by Jon Williams to put runners in scoring position in the eighth inning. Tingler scored on a single by Lee Laskowksi and Williams scored on a balk.
Luke Cassis had three hits for the Tigers while Stegall and Propst each had two hits. Mitch Kiler picked up the win to improve to 2-4. He struck out a season-high nine batters in seven innings.
Tingler had two stolen bases in the contest to move into a tie for seventh place with Al Hightower with 30 stolen bases on the MU all-time career charts. Tingler now has stolen 16 bases to rank 10th all-time on the MU single-season chart.
Missouri improves to 23-16-1 while Creighton is now 15-19.
The Tigers will play Iowa State this weekend in a Big 12 Conference weekend series. Here is the weekend schedule:
