
Missouri Rallies To Down Texas Tech 5-4

COLUMBIA, Mo. - The University of Missouri baseball team used a two-run rally in the eighth inning to defeat Texas Tech 5-4 Friday in Big 12 Conference action at Taylor Stadium/Simmons Field. The win was the fifth-straight victory for Missouri and the program's 11th triumph in the past 13 games.
The Tigers opened the first inning with four straight hits to score two runs. Jon Williams doubled and moved to third on a single by Ryan Stegall. The Tigers put on the hit-and-run play and Mick Weiss hit an infield single, scoring Williams and moving Stegall to third base. Lee Laskowski singled to center to drive in Stegall and give MU a quick 2-0 lead.
The Red Raiders' Bryon Smith hit a solo home run to left-center to make the score 2-1 in the top of the third inning. Missouri answered with a run of its own in the bottom half of the third. Stegall singled and would score on another Laskowski single to center to give Missouri a 3-1 lead.
Texas Tech hit two home runs and added a double to account for three runs and take 4-3 lead in the fourth inning.
Laskowski singled to open the eighth inning. With one out, Cody Ehlers walked and W.T. Hoover replaced Ehlers on the basepaths as a pinch-runner. Felipe Tetelboin reached on an error before Luke Cassis hit a sacrifice fly to center to score Laskowski and tie the game. On the throw into the infield, Texas Tech attempted to pick off Tetelboin at first base. The throw went awry and allowed Missouri to put runners at second and third base, respectively. Jayce Tingler drove in Hoover with a bunt single down the left-field line to give MU the 5-4 lead and hopes for the win.
Stegall recorded his fourth save in as many chances to give the Tigers their fifth-straight win of the season. Logan Dale improved to 2-2 with a win in relief. Texas Tech starting pitcher Chris Phillips falls to 8-2 on the season.
Laskowski had three hits while Williams, Stegall and Weiss each had two hits.
Missouri improves to 18-10-1 overall and 6-7 in the Big 12 while the Red Raiders fall to 21-13 and 6-7.
The teams are scheduled to play game two of the three-game series Saturday at 2 p.m.
