JONESBORO, Ark. -- The University of Missouri baseball team used late-inning heroics Wednesday to down Arkansas State 9-4 in 10 innings at Tomlinson Stadium/Kell Field in non-conference action.
The Tigers scored two runs in the ninth inning to tie the game, 4-4, before erupting for five runs in the 10th inning to record the win.
Missouri, which has won 12 of its last 14 games, improves to 17-10-1 while Arkansas State, a member of the Sun Belt Conference, falls to 9-19.
The Indians took advantage of Missouri miscues to take a 3-0 lead after four innings. The Tigers committed two errors, a wild pitch and a passed ball, all leading to runs.
Missouri put up two runs in the fifth inning. Kurt Propst led off the inning with a single and scored on a double by Luke Cassis. Cassis scored on a one-out single to center field by Jon Williams and cut into the Indians' lead.
Arkansas State used two hits and two walks to score a run in the seventh inning and take a 4-2 lead.
The Tigers tied the score in the ninth inning. W.T. Hoover delivered a pinch-hit single. After one out, Propst and Cassis walked to load the bases. Jayce Tingler delivered a double to left-center to tie the game. With the ASU infield in, Williams hit a ground ball up the middle but a diving stop and quick throw erased Cassis at the plate and the Tigers' chances to take a lead.
In the 10th, Mick Weiss and Lee Laskowski singled to open the inning. Weiss, who went to third on Laskowski's single, scored when a pickoff attempt went awry for an error. Pinch-hitter Cody Ehlers tripled to right field to score Laskowski and give the Tigers a 6-4 lead. Wes Fewell singled past a drawn-in infield to score Ehlers and a 7-4 lead. Felipe Tetelboin singled before Fewell and Tetelboin executed a double steal. Cassis singled into right field to clear the bases and give Missouri a 9-4 lead.
Cassis led the Tigers with two hits and three runs batted in.
The Tigers return to Big 12 Conference action this weekend against Texas Tech. Game one of the three-game series will be 7 p.m. Friday at Taylor Stadium/Simmons Field.
