JONESBORO, Ark. -- Steady scoring powered the University of Missouri baseball team to a 10-0 win Tuesday night over Arkansas State at Tomlinson Stadium/Kell Field. The Tigers scored runs in six of nine innings in the win.
Matt Hobbs threw a complete game shutout to record his fifth win of the season. Hobbs tied his career-best with eight strikeouts and allowed only five hits in the contest. The complete game was the first of Hobbs' career.
Missouri, which has won 13 of its last 16 games, improves to 16-10-1, while Arkansas State falls to 9-18.
The Tigers scored in the second inning to open a 1-0 lead. Mick Weiss walked and moved to second base on a wild pitch. Brian Desch delivered a two-out single to right-center field to score Weiss.
Missouri added a run in the second inning as Luke Cassis and Jayce Tingler had back-to-back singles with one out. After a double steal, Cassis scored on a sacrifice fly by Jon Williams.
Weiss gave the Tigers a 3-0 run as he reached on an error, moved to third base on a passed ball and scored on a wild pitch. Tingler scored in the fourth inning as he reached on a walk, moved to third on an errant pickoff throw and scored on a passed ball.
Missouri erupted for three runs in the seventh inning. Cassis was hit by a pitch and Williams walked. With two outs, Weiss singled in Cassis for a 5-0 edge. A walk to Lee Laskowski loaded the bases before Wes Fewell singled to center to score Williams and Weiss for the 7-0 lead.
The Tigers scored three runs in the eighth inning. Cody Ehlers singled to open the inning and was replaced by Tony Vitello. Vitello moved to second base on an infield out before scoring on a single by Williams. Ryan Stegall hit his fifth home run of the season, the 25th of his career, to left field to give MU a 10-0 lead.
The Tigers and the Indians complete the series Wednesday at 2 p.m.
