Tigers Split Twin Bill With Nebraska

LINCOLN, Neb. -- Missouri and Nebraska split a doubleheader Saturday at Buck Beltzer Stadium in Big 12 Conference play. Nebraska, which is ranked fifth by Collegiate Baseball, won the opener 14-4 on 11 hits and nine walks while the Tigers used 10 hits and nine walks to win game two 6-2.
Game 1 - Nebraska 14, Missouri 4
Nebraska opened the scoring with a two-run home run by Dan Johnson in the bottom of the first inning. The Cornhuskers added two runs in the both the second and third innings to take a 6-0 lead.
Missouri got on the scoreboard when Mick Weiss reached on a one-out single to center field. Weiss advanced to second base on a wild pitch before Wes Fewell's two-out double to right field to give the Tigers their first run.
The Cornhuskers answered with two runs in the fourth inning to chase MU starter Drew Endicott and take an 8-1 lead.
Missouri plated three runs in the seventh inning. W.T. Hoover walked to lead off the inning before Felipe Tetelboin singled to center. Luke Cassis moved both runners into scoring position with a sacrifice bunt before a single to left field by Jayce Tingler scored both runners. Ryan Stegall hit a two-run double to right-center to score Tingler and make it 8-4.
However, Nebraska used a six-run seventh to end the game 14-4 due to the 10-run rule. The big blow in the inning was a three-run home run by Adam Stern to make it 11-4.
Game 2- Missouri 6, Nebraska 2
Missouri opened a 1-0 lead in the first inning as Tingler and Jon Williams walked to open the game. Tingler scored on a single by Lee Laskowski for the 1-0. MU added three runs in the second inning. Fewell led off with a double while Cassis walked and Tingler drove a pitch into left field to drive in a pair of runs. Tingler scored on a Nebraska error.
MU added a run in the fifth inning. Weiss led off with a single and scored on a bases-loaded walk to Kurt Propst to give the Tigers a 5-1 lead.
The Tigers added a run in the ninth inning. Laskowski singled and moved to second on a sacrifice. He scored on a single to center by Fewell for a 6-2 edge.
Laskowski had four hits and Tingler had three hits to power the Tigers in the nightcap. Fewell added two hits.
Missouri improves to 14-10-1 and 4-7 in Big 12 while Nebraska falls to 17-6 and 5-1.
The two teams will complete the three-game series Sunday at 1 p.m.
