
Missouri Downs Western Illinois 10-2

COLUMBIA, Mo. -- The University of Missouri baseball team rode a six-run eighth inning to down Western Illinois 10-2 Wednesday at Taylor Stadium/Simmons Field.
The Tigers, who have won eight of their past nine games, are now 13-9-1 while Western Illinois falls to 0-16.
After struggling through four innings, Missouri finally broke out in the fifth inning with a pair of runs. W.T. Hoover led off the inning with a single and moved to third on a double by Wes Fewell. Kurt Propst walked and Hoover scored on a wild pitch. Luke Cassis singled to left field to drive in Fewell and the 2-0 lead.
The Tigers added two runs in the seventh inning. Propst walked and Cassis singled to put runners on first and third base, respectively. Tingler singled to drive in Propst and a single by Jon Williams drove in Cassis.
And then came the eighth. MU sent 10 batters to the plate to score its six runs. Cody Ehlers walked to lead off the inning before Fewell doubled. Propst singled to left field, driving in two runs. Cassis walked and Tingler singled before Williams doubled to center field, scoring two more runs. Ryan Stegall hit a sacrifice fly for a 9-0 lead before Mick Weiss drove in Williams with a single to center and the 10-0 lead.
Western Illinois scored its first runs of the series with a two-run home run in the ninth inning.
Tingler led Missouri with three hits and two stolen bases while Williams, Hoover, Fewell and Cassis each had two.
Missouri returns to Big 12 Conference action this weekend with a three-game series against Nebraska. The series starts with a 6:30 p.m. game Friday in Lincoln, Neb., at Buck Beltzer Stadium.
