
Tigers Down Missouri Valley 9-2

COLUMBIA, Mo. -- The University of Missouri baseball team recorded a 9-2 win over Missouri Valley Tuesday evening at Taylor Stadium/Simmons Field. The win was the Tigers third straight. Missouri improves to 8-8-1 overall while Missouri Valley falls to 10-7.
After Missouri Valley took a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning on a home run by Adam Manley, the Tigers answered with three runs in the bottom half of the fourth. Mick Weiss walked to lead off the frame and Kurt Propst reached on an error. With two outs, Brian Desch walked to load the bases. Luke Cassis drove an 0-2 pitch down the right-field line to clear the bases.
MU added a run in the fifth. Jon Williams walked to lead off the inning and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt. Williams scored on a single to right field by Weiss. The single extended Weiss' hit streak to 12 games.
In the sixth inning, Missouri scored two runs. With two outs, Cassis walked and Jayce Tingler reached on a bunt single - his second of the game. Williams doubled down the left-field line to drive in both Cassis and Tingler and give the Tigers an 6-1 lead.
Missouri Valley scored an unearned run in the seventh before Weiss opened the seventh inning with a home run to right center to give MU a 7-2 lead.
Tingler walked to open the eighth inning and stole second base before Williams doubled down the right-field line. Aaron Peterik replaced Williams and scored on a single to left field by Ryan Stegall to give Missouri a 9-2 lead after eight.
Williams had three hits, highlighted by a pair of doubles, while Tingler and Weiss each had two hits for Missouri. Williams, who drove in three runs, now has four three-hit games this season.
The Tigers will take on Truman State Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Taylor Stadium/Simmons Field.
