STILLWATER, Okla. - The University of Missouri baseball team could not come up with a timely hit or a key play and fell 7-2 Sunday Big 12 Conference play against Oklahoma State at Allie P. Reynolds Stadium.
Missouri, which stranded six runners and committed two errors, falls to 3-4-1 overall and 0-2 in the Big 12. Oklahoma State, which is ranked as high as 14th, improves to 9-2 overall and 2-0 in league play.
After Oklahoma State scored in its half of the first inning, the Cowboys pushed a pair of runs across via two hits, an MU error and a sacrifice fly in the fourth inning to take a 3-0 lead.
Missouri answered with a run in both the fifth and sixth innings. In the fifth, Kurt Propst and Wes Fewell reached on back-to-back singles before a walk to Luke Cassis loaded the bases. Jayce Tingler reached on a fielder's choice to score Propst before an inning-ending double play squelched the scoring threat. In the sixth, Ryan Stegall led off with a single and Jon Williams was hit by a pitch. Stegall advanced to third on a double play and scored on a single to right field by Mick Weiss.
Oklahoma State made if 5-2 in the seventh after a bases-loaded walk. Luke Scott, who went 3-for-4 Saturday, hit a two-run home run in the eighth inning to give OSU a 7-2 edge.
Stegall and Weiss each had two hits to lead Missouri.
Missouri and the Cowboys close the three-game series Monday at 1 p.m.
