STILLWATER, Okla. -- The University of Missouri baseball team came up short in a 6-4 loss Saturday as the Tigers opened Big 12 Conference play against Oklahoma State at Allie P. Reynolds Stadium.
Missouri falls to 3-3-1 overall and 0-1 in the Big 12. Oklahoma State, which is ranked as high as 14th, improves to 8-2.
The Cowboys used a pair of doubles to open a 1-0 lead after one inning. MU's Ryan Rallo hit his first collegiate home run to left field to tie the game one. However, Nebassett Brown hit a three-run homer to right field as OSU scored four runs in the second inning to take a 5-1 lead.
MU cut the lead to three runs (5-2) when Luke Cassis singled to open the fifth inning. Jayce Tingler walked before a one-out single by Jon Williams scored Cassis.
After the Cowboys made it 6-2, Mizzou ralled with back-to-back singles in the sixth inning. An OSU error plated one run but that was the lone run for Missouri that frame.
Missouri's Williams opened the seventh inning by homering to right field to make it 6-4.
The Tigers would eventually load the bases with out in the eighth inning and looked to cut into the lead. However, just like it did in the third and fifth innings, Missouri would come away without scoring a run in that situation. MU stranded 11 runners on base in the contest.
Williams had three hits for the second-straight game and Cassis added two hits. Williams drove in a pair of runs to lead the attack.
Missouri and the Cowboys continue play Sunday and Monday.
