Columbia, Mo.-The University of Missouri women's soccer team trampled Arkansas-Little Rock in a record setting 12-0 victory. The win boosts Mizzou to 11-6 on the season and drops UALR to 0-15-1. It is Missouri's sixth shutout on the year.
The Tigers ruled the first half outscoring the Trojans 5-0 to tie an MU record for most points in a single half. Freshman Missy Peabody was Mizzou's sure-foot in the period scoring three first half goals-the mark ties the MU record for both goals in a period and goals scored in a single game (both records were previously set by All-American Nikki Thole).
Peabody scored the first two goals for Mizzou, placing her first one in the net after just two minutes of play. Midfielder Karen Bauer sent a cross to Adrienne Davis who flicked an inside pass in the middle. Just six minutes later Peabody took another assist from Davis to bring the score to 2-0.
Defender Kim Hibbert scored her first goal of the season with an unassisted attack. The freshman dribbled the ball from the half, through the UALR defense for a one-on-one shot with the goalkeeper.
Peabody came back to land her third goal of the game in the 35th minutes. Fellow forward Melissa McLellan passed back from the endline enabling Peabody a direct shot.
Missouri rounded out the period with an unassisted goal by senior defender Mandy Waters. Mimicking Hibbert's heroics earlier in the game, Waters dribbled a ball from half field and lured the Trojan keeper from the box for the score.
The Tigers continued to decimate Arkansas-Little Rock in the second half scoring seven more goals. Karen Bauer and Mandy Waters each put in one and Kristen Heil and Melissa McLellan both scored two for Mizzou.
Missouri outshot the Trojans 17-to-2 in the first 45 minutes, including an 11-to-1 shot on goal differential. Continuing the onslaught in the second half, MU outshot UALR 35-to-4 overall, with 18-to-3 shots on goal. The Tigers also set six team records:
