NORMAN, OK -- The Oklahoma Sooners jumped on Pete Sansone early in Saturday night's game at Dale Mitchell Park and cruised to a 11-3 victory in Big 12 Conference baseball action.
The Sooners (33-18, 16-9) scored four runs in the first inning on four hits and two Tigers errors, then added single runs in the second and third innings to roll up a 6-0 lead. OU's run in the third came on a leadoff home run by Jeff Bajernaru - his ninth of the season.
After Mizzou got on the board in the fifth inning when Jayce Tingler bunted for a hit to drive in Jon Williams who had walked, Oklahoma went to work again. In the bottom of the inning, the Sooners put together four hits again to tally four runs and drove Sansone from the game.
The junior lasted just four-and-a third innings and absorbed his first defeat of the season (5-1), allowing eight runs on 10 hits. Ralph McCasland and Brian Ackerson mopped up for Mizzou.
The Tigers scored their final runs in the eighth inning on a two-rbi double by Landon Brandes.
Evan Greusel went the distance for Oklahoma and scattered seven hits to raise his record to 4-0. He struck out 10 batters and walked three.
Despite the loss, Missouri clinched a berth in the Phillips 66 Big 12 Conference Tournament on Friday night when Oklahoma State defeated Iowa State, 7-4.
The MU-OU series continues on Sunday with a 2 p.m. game in which Jon Harris (5-4) will take the mound for the Tigers. The series concludes on Monday night. Mitch Kiler (2-1) is the scheduled starter for the Tigers.
