The five Missouri seniors ended their careers on University Field on a high note. After losing nine of their last 10 games, the Tigers finished the regular season with an uplifting conference win over the Baylor Bears.
Baylor started the scoring in the third inning. Naomi Fitzgerald led off with a single to third base. She advanced on a bunt by Sarah Sharp. Both runners advanced on a Sarah Caudle sacrifice bunt. Fitzgerald scored on a Kristen Lancaster sacrifice fly. They continued their scoring efforts in the top of the fourth. Ryan Stukel led off with a homer over the left center field fence.
Missouri tied the game in the bottom of the fourth. Linda Swarts led off with a single to center field. Dara Throneburg added a double down the left field line. Kristen Burke came in at third to pinch run for Swarts. Lindsey Jacoby ripped a single into center field to score both Missouri runners.
Swarts scored the eventual winning run in the bottom of the sixth on a Throneburg single.
The Tigers had a score in the top of the seventh. The Tiger defense and Stephanie Falk got the first two Baylor batters out, but allowed the next two on base. Stukel hit the ball to Falk, but she overthrew first, and the Bears kept running. Tiger right fielder Karen Williams fielded the ball after the error and threw it to home to make the out and keep the tying run from scoring.
Ingrid Werner started the game for Missouri, but was relieved by Falk in the fifth inning. Falk got the win and improved her record to 16-15. Joni Miller took the loss for the Bears.
The Tigers have a week off to take finals before they leave for the Big 12 Tournament in Oklahoma City.
