The Tigers were dealt a heart-breaking loss today at University Field. Although they out hit Baylor 6-2, it wasn't enough as they lost 2-1 in the second to last game of the season.
Missouri started off quick in the first inning with Stacy Gemeinhardt scored on a Linda Swarts sacrifice fly. The Tigers added a hit in each the second and third innings and three in the bottom of the seventh, but hits aren't enough if you can't score runs.
Baylor scored its first run in the top of the fourth. Sarah Sharp scored on a Kristen Lancaster double to center field. Missouri then brought in Ingrid Werner to relieve starter Stephanie Falk. Baylor's second run came in the top of the seventh. Ryan Stukel led off with a walk. She advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt. Heather Williams walked to put runners on first and second for the Bears. Summer Rohde reached on a fielder's choice and the Tigers got Williams out at second, but the ball was thrown into the Tiger dugout as they tried to make the double play, allowing Stukel to score the winning run.
Missouri had a chance to score in the seventh, but the final batter of the game flew out to left with the bases loaded.
Werner took the loss for the Tigers, moving her record to 12-9 on the season. Joni Miller got the Win for Baylor. It was her fifth consecutive win, as well as the fifth consecutive win for the Bears.
The two teams face off again tomorrow. The five Tiger seniors, Christy Caccavo, Amy Farmer, Stacy Gemeinhardt, Christy Skouby and Linda Swarts, will be honored, as it will be their final home game.
