O'FALLON, MO -- Jon Williams tripled home Nick Wilfong in the 12th inning Tuesday night, and Dustin Barnes followed with an RBI-single, propelling the Missouri Tigers to a 5-3 victory over the St. Louis U. Billikens in the first Rawlings-KTRS Baseball Classic at T.R. Hughes Ballpark in O'Fallon.
Both teams used wooden bats in the game, provided by St. Louis-based Rawlings Sporting Goods.
It was Missouri's fourth win in its last five games. The Tigers, 26-17, will try for the fourth time to climb 10 games over .500 when they host the Southwest Missouri State Bears on Wednesday evening at Taylor Stadium at Simmons Field.
Mizzou took a 3-2 lead into the bottom of the ninth inning, after a sacrifice fly by Ryan Stegall and a two-out double by Wilfong plated a pair of runs in the sixth inning.
Stegall took the hill in the ninth inning, looking for a school-record 10th save of the season. But the Bills (17-25) got a pair of bloop hits to tie the game - a double by Kurt Evans and a single by Adam Shea.
Despite blowing the save, Stegall worked the rest of the game - the four inning stint was his longest ever - and earned the victory (2-1). He allowed four hits and one run while striking out three and walking one. Freshman Drew Endicott pitched the first eight innings for the Tigers - his longest outing of the season.
SLU reliever Ben Hutton took the loss (3-3).
