COLUMBIA, MO -- Pete Sansone raised his record to 5-0 and Nick Wilfong took over the team lead with his seventh home run as the Missouri Tigers downed the Cal State Northridge Matadors, 6-1, Friday night at Taylor Stadium at Simmons Field.
Sansone scattered six hits and allowed one run in his six innings of work. He struck out five. Matt Hobbs and Ryan Stegall finished up on the mound for Mizzou (24-16), combining for another five strikeouts.
Wilfong's blast to centerfield led off the Missouri fifth inning and gave the Tigers a 4-1 lead.
Freshman Jayce Tingler continued to swing a hot bat, getting two hits to extend his hitting streak to six games and raising his batting average to .377 - best by a freshman in the Big 12 Conference. He drove in an insurance run in the eighth inning.
Andy Davidson pitched a complete game for Cal State Northridge (16-25) but saw his record fall to 3-5. It was just the second complete game for the Matadors pitching staff this season.
Missouri has now won two straight games and snapped Northridge's three-game winning streak which included two victories over No. 15 UCLA.
The series continues with a 2 p.m. contest on Saturday and a 12 p.m. Easter Sunday affair. Jon Harris will pitch for the Tigers on Saturday against Northridge freshman lefthander Billy Murphy.
