
Men's Golf Places 3rd in Spring Opener

Orlando, Fla. - The University of Missouri men's golf team finished third at the three-team Northern Invasion Invitational, a 36-hole tournament which wrapped up today at the Orange County National Golf Club in Orlando, Fla.
The Tigers were just nine strokes back of Illinois State, which won with a two-round team score of 574. Host Kansas State was second with a team total of 580, followed by MU, at 583.
Missouri was paced by freshman Shawn Fleming and senior David Suggs, who each tied for fourth place individually, with totals of 144. Fleming fired identical rounds of 72 and 72 for his total, while Suggs rallied from an opening-round 75 to post a three-under par 69 in the final 18. The duo finished seven strokes back of champion Stuart Anderson of Illinois State, who shot rounds of 71 and 66 for a winning 137 total.
Other Tiger competitors in the top-10 included senior Andy Espe, who tied for seventh overall with a two-round total of 147, and senior Tom Vogt, who tied for 10th, just one stroke back, at 148.
Rounding out the Tiger contingent were sophomore Cory Ewert and junior Blayne Rosely, who finished 16th and 18th with respective totals of 159 and 161.
Next up for Head Coach Tim Robyn's Tigers is Louisiana Classics Intercollegiate, to be held March 13-14 at Lafayette, La.
