LUBBOCK, TX -- Their defense let the Missouri Tigers down in the seventh inning Saturday at Dan Law Field and the Texas Tech Red Raiders capitalized for a seven-run inning that allowed them to come from behind for a 11-6 Big 12 Conference baseball victory.
Tech's victory evened the series at 1-1, with the deciding game to be played at 1 p.m. Sunday. Junior Pete Sansone (1-0) will pitch for Missouri.
Mizzou led 5-4 entering the seventh inning, when MU starter Logan Dale walked Scott Holzhauer to start the frame, and Chaz Eiguren followed with a double to right field. Shaun Larkin plated a run with a sacrifice fly to left before Matt Hobbs relieved for the Tigers. He uncorked a wild pitch, then walked Jason Rainey. Hobbs' second wild pitch allowed Eiguren to score. First baseman Mike Rallo then made the first of his two errors in the inning, which opened the flood gates. From that point on, three hits, two walks, a hit batsmen and another wild pitch - this one by reliever P.J. McGinnis, enabled the Red Raiders to score five unearned runs.
Missouri rolled up 13 hits on the afternoon - four by shortstop Ryan Stegall who is 8-for-11 in the series. W.T. Hoover, Landon Brandes, Nick Wilfong and Mick Weiss each had two hits.
Dale (1-2) took the loss for the Tigers (5-5, 1-1). Cory Metzler worked into the eighth inning for Texas Tech (8-7, 1-1) and earned the victory (1-1). He scattered 12 hits and four walks and struckout five. Steve Rowe pitched the final inning and a third for Texas Tech.
