MALIBU, CA -- Pepperdine senior Jeremy Coronado scored on a wild pitch in the seventh inning to account for the game-winning run as the Waves defeated Missouri 6-5 in a non-conference game Friday afternoon at Eddy D. Field Stadium.
The win snapped the Waves' three-game losing streak and improved their record to 2-5. The Tigers fell to 0-1 on the season.
After Missouri took a 2-0 lead in the second inning on back-to-back home runs by Ryan Stegall and Jon Williams, Pepperdine sent seven batters to the plate and scored five runs in the bottom half of the inning to take a 5-2 lead.
Junior Dane Sardinha, who went 2-for-4, led off the inning with a basehit. Singles by Tony Garcia, Jeremy White, Coronado and Damon Katz, along with Duke Sardinha reaching on a fielder's choice, a balk and an error aided the Waves' five-run uprising.
The Tigers inched closer with a run in the fourth inning and tied the score 5-5 in the seventh on a two-run, two-out double by second baseman Dustin Barnes.
Coronado started Pepperdine's winning rally in the seventh on a leadoff single, advanced to second on fielder's choice, reached third on a sacrifice by Austin Evans and scored on a wild pitch.
Senior Steve Schenewerk started for Pepperdine and pitched six innings before giving way after the first two batters reached safely. In six-plus innings, Schenewerk allowed five hits and walked three.
Sophomore left-hander Noah Lowry worked one inning to earn his first win of the season. Daniel Haren pitched the final 1.1 innings to record his first career save.
Stegall was the game's top hitter as he went 3-for-4 with a home run and two doubles to lead the Tigers.
Pepperdine and Missouri continue their three-game series on Saturday with a noon contest at Eddy D. Field Stadium
