
No. 25 Mizzou Drops Drake

Des Moines, Iowa - The No. 25 University of Missouri volleyball team took a break from its busy Big 12 schedule and made the trek to Drake University on Monday sweeping the Bulldogs, 15-3, 15-4, 15-8. The match was a one hour and fifteen minute affair a featured a very efficient offensive attack by the Tigers who hit a Drake opponent season-high .391.
In game one, Mizzou jumped out to a 7-1 lead and never looked back taking the game, 15-3. Mizzou hit a robust .692 with 18 kills and no errors. The Tigers limited the Bulldogs to a .172 hitting efficiency behind five total blocks. The Bulldogs hung tough early in game two trading points with Mizzou at 3-3.However, the Tigers would go on a 12-1 run, which included seven straight points served by junior Racheal Taylor, and grabbed a 15-4 win. Game three was a dead heat at 4-4, but Mizzou went on an 11-4 run to end the scoring and take the game at 15-8.
Like a cat, balance continues to be the Tiger's strength. Sophomore Lisa Morris just missed her ninth double-double of the season with 15 kills, nine digs, and four total blocks. Junior Naaron Branson and freshman Ashlee Johns were also effective putting down 11 kills a piece with Branson recording a match-high .579 hitting percentage with no errors on 19 attacks. Christi Myers passed extremely well in the match recording a season-high 12 digs while just missing a double-double with nine kills.
The win moves the Tigers to 22-5 overall and 12-5 in the Big 12 Conference. Mizzou is off this Wednesday, but will return to action on Saturday when it travels to Lawrence, Kan. to take on vaunted rival Kansas. The Tigers are currently locked in a dogfight with Kansas State and Texas A & M for second place in the Big 12. Kansas State is 18-6 overall and 12-4 in the Big 12, currently in second place behind No. 1 Nebraska. Following Mizzou in fourth place are the Aggies who are 16-7 overall and 11-5 in the Big 12.
