Columbia, Mo. - The University of Missouri volleyball team made quick work of the Iowa State Cyclones on Saturday night sweeping ISU 15-5, 15-5, 15-5. The Tigers also take the season from the Cyclones for the fourth consecutive year with the win.
The Tigers were solid tonight in every aspect of the game recording a .337 hitting percentage, 11.5 total team blocks, and eight service aces.
"We needed a solid start-to-finish effort tonight and I felt like we had it," Head Coach Susan Kreklow said. "We have a big week ahead of us and this definitely bolsters our confidence as a team."
The Tiger's featured a very balanced attack once again with freshman Ashlee Johns recording a career-high 14 kills and .600 hitting percentage to lead the onslaught. Juniors Lisa Morris and Naaron Branson, and sophomore Christi Myers also played well collecting eight kills apiece. Myers also continued her solid play at the net putting down six total blocks (3 solo/ 3 assists).
The defensive specialists were lethal tonight from the service line for MU. Junior Katie Sowers recorded a career-high four service aces while junior Rachael Taylor pitched in with two of the Tiger's eight service winners.
Like clockwork, senior Heather Gerber was solid handing out 34 assists while also digging up five digs.
The win moves the Tigers to 18-4 on the year and 9-4 in the Big 12. Mizzou currently sits in a tie for third place in the Big 12 with Kansas State as it heads to the Lone Star state for the fourth and final time on Wednesday to take the Baylor Bears in Waco. The Tigers pulled out a 3-2 thriller against the Bears in Columbia earlier this season on Oct. 23. The Tigers are 1-2 in trips to Texas this season. After the Baylor trip, MU welcomes the Red Raiders of Texas Tech to the Hearnes Center for a 7:00 p.m. Saturday tilt. For ticket information, call 1-800-CAT-PAWS.
