COLUMBIA, Mo. - Amanda Lassiter scored 18 points while blocking five shots as Missouri raced to a 92-49 victory over the Bradley Braves on Saturday afternoon. The win marked the fourth straight victory for Mizzou in season openers. The Tigers will play their home opener on Monday night against Arkansas.
It was a homecoming of sorts for Coach Cindy Stein and junior forward Marlena Williams, both natives of Peoria, Ill. Williams scored 13 points for the Tigers while Stein claimed the win in her first trip back to Bradley University, the school she was once an assistant coach.
The Tigers led 49-31 at halftime as their helter-skelter defense forced Bradley into 32 turnovers. The Tigers held the Braves to just 18 second half points.
Meanwhile, Missouri shot 55 percent from the floor for the game, including a sizzling 62 percent in the first half. Thirteen Tigers reached the scoring column led by Lassiter's 18. Ekpe Akpaffiong came off the bench to score 13 points and 5 rebounds in just 14 minutes of play. Amy Monsees also contributed 14 points for the Tigers.
